This 1920s Ballard craftsman had its third-generation cedar shake roof showing severe splitting, cupping, and moss penetration after 25 years. The homeowner wanted to preserve the authentic craftsman character with a new cedar shake roof rather than switching to composition. We installed premium #1 hand-split red cedar shakes over cedar breather underlayment for proper ventilation, with copper flashing at the chimney and all wall transitions. The result is a roof that honors the home’s heritage while providing decades of protection.
